Michelle and Kaylem Arteaga, opened the doors of Trek Counseling, in July 2019. Both are originally from California, and are 20 years into their marriage. The Arteaga’s have five children, all raised in the State of Utah. Like the rest of us, The Arteaga’s have witnessed the mental health crisis impact their state, community, and home. With a desire to combat the mental health crisis, coupled with the reality of shortages of mental health resources in our communities, the Arteaga’s took to action in establishing Trek Counseling; a community mental health outpatient clinic that serves families and individuals, with a concentration on teen mental health. Now, with four offices spread-out in Utah county, and Salt Lake County, Trek Counseling has become a fast-growing mental health resource for families and individuals seeking help.
WHY TREK? A trek can be defined as a long and difficult journey. Moreover, a person’s life-span, from infancy to late adulthood, can be interpreted as one’s own unique and personal trek. As we at Trek Counseling, examine and assess each client’s unique trek in life, we utilize a life span perspective (Lerner, 2002), that conceptualizes human behavior as influenced by developmental processes across biological, historical, sociocultural, and psychological factors from conception to death.
We, at Trek Counseling, believe that one’s trek in life, while difficult, is meant to be enjoyed. That we are meant to learn and grow from our own personal and family experiences. Set-backs in life are opportunities for self-exploration and progress on one’s mental health trek.

Trek Counseling's Mentoring Program strives to enhance the academic, social, and emotional growth of youth in our communities, through meaningful connections with carefully selected adult mentors. We accomplish this by recruiting, training, and supporting mentors to support youth. We work in collaboration and partnerships with the State of Utah, Department of Human and Health Services, and our Utah School Districts.
